BRAKES ON THOSE SPEEDERS. AND IT )S JUST THE FIRST OF MANY MEASURES TO COME ON ALBUQUERQUE )S WESTSIDE. NEWS 13 )S RACHEL KNAPP IS LIVE AT UNIVERSE AND IRVING WITH THE DETAILS. KIM- JUST THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME WE )VE BEEN HERE, WE )VE SEEN PEOPLE SPEEDING ON THIS STREET. BUT WITH TWO NEW SPEED TRAILERS, ONE OF WHICH WILL TEMPORARILY BE PLACED HERE, OFFICIALS HOPE TO SLOW DRIVERS DOWN. APD 09:55 we )re not here to trap people, we )re here to make people aware of the speeding issues that are occuring 10:00 so people might say we )re not doing anything but when they see this, they )ll see that we are as opposed to having a hidden camera and people being concerned we )re not doing this 10:10 THESE SPEED TRAILERS ARE NOTHING NEW TO ALBUQUERQUE… BUT CITY COUNCILOR CYNTHIA BORREGO RECENTLY PURCHASED TWO OF THEM AFTER COMPLAINTS OF TOO MANY SPEEDERS IN HER WEST SIDE DISTRICT. THE TRAILERS ARE DESIGNED TO GATHER DATA… LIKE HOW FAST PEOPLE ARE GOING… PEAK HOURS OF TRAFFIC AND SPEEDERS… AND THEN RELAY THAT INFORMATION BACK TO A-P-D. POLICE SAY THEY WILL THEN PUT THEIR OFFICERS IN THOSE AREAS FOR MORE TRAFFIC STOPS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEEN THESE SPEED TRAILERS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE CITY… TELL US THEY ARE ALL FOR THE EXTRA ENFORCEMENT. David Barnes, driver 00:20 I think they )re an excellent tool to try to keep people speeds down 00:26 THE TWO NEW SPEED TRAILERS COST ALMOST 17-THOUSAND DOLLARS, MONEY COMING FROM COUNCILOR BORREGO )S SET ASIDE FUND. KIM BACK TO YOU. OKAY RACHEL. COUNCILOR BORREGO ALSO SPENT AN ADDITIONAL 135- THOUSAND DOLLARS ON TWO REAL-TIME SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS THAT WILL BE PUT UP IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS… AS WELL AS SIX NEW LAPTOPS FOR POLICE.

  6. Westside is more aware of the speeding situation. Its up to other neighborhoods to notify their government area to amp up the enforcement. It would also be up to the public to sign in a law that would allow ticketing by camera. As well we already have mobile moving red light cameras. So please, just ask your government questions and they will get back to you. We citizens also have a role in keeping out city clean and welcome.
