Defence Statements | Olliers Solicitors | Law Firm
One of the most important stages in a
Crown Court case is when we reach the stage of preparing a defence statement.
At Olliers we take our time in taking your instructions and presenting, on your
behalf, your version of events. There are several
reasons why a defence statement is so important. The first is that it is your
opportunity to set out in what ways you take issue with what is
alleged against you. The second part of the defence statement is to give
the reasons why you take issue; to set out your version of events; what you say
happened. Thirdly, perhaps most importantly, the defence statement can be
used to ask the prosecution “Have you got material in your possession which you
should be disclosing to the defence on the basis that it undermines your case
or that it assists the defence case?” And that is what we seek to achieve on
behalf of our clients.
