Defence Team News – 5 June 2019

December 3, 2019 posted by

This year marks the 101st
anniversary of the Memorial Cup, a Canadian Hockey League trophy
dedicated to the memory of all fallen Canadian
Armed Forces members. This historic relationship between the Memorial Cup
and the CAF was recently highlighted
through a series of activities during the 2019 Memorial Cup
Hockey Tournament in Halifax, Nova Scotia. CAF members
participated in events throughout the tournament,
including a ship’s escort of the Memorial Cup
onboard HMCS Glace Bay, a Forces Atlantic Day tour
hosted by local Army, Navy and Air Force units, a CAF Confidence
obstacle course, and a Gala Dinner
at CFB Halifax. Local military members
were also honoured at each hockey game
and given a special jersey. Bravo Zulu to the Canadian
Hockey League teams who made it to the Memorial Cup. Before we go, a reminder that
the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy
is coming up on June 6th. A Canadian contingent
recently arrived in Courseulles-sur-Mer, France, to prepare for a ceremony
to take place at the Juno Beach Centre
on the day of the anniversary. This ceremony
will be livestreamed on the Canadian Armed Forces
Facebook Page for viewers to watch online. ♪ ♪
