ASHLEY: WE’RE STILL IN HUNTING SEASON. 22NEWS STORM TEAM METEOROLOGIST KELLY REARDON EXPLAINS WHAT EXTRA PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE IF YOU PLAN TO HIKE OR JOG THROUGH THE WOODS. KELLY: MASSACHUSETTS IS FILLED WITH BEAUTIFUL FORESTS TO EXPLORE. BUT IN HUNTING SEASON, YOU PUT YOUR SAFETY AT RISK IF YOU’RE NOT EASY TO SEE. HUNTERS WEAR ORANGE SO THAT OTHER HUNTERS CAN SEE THEM. WHEN YOU’RE IN THE WOODS DURING HUNTING SEASON, YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRESS IN CAMOUFLAGE OR COLORS THAT BLEND IN TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS. JOHN MARTELLI WITH THE EASTHAMPTON ROD AND GUN CLUB EXPLAINS WHY IT’S IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO THROW ON AN ORANGE VEST. JOHN MARTELLI: “IF YOU’RE NOT A HUNTER YOU DON’T HAVE TO WEAR IT BUT IT’S A GOOD IDEA IF YOU’RE OUT IN THE WOODS TO BE WEARING ORANGE BECAUSE THAT WAY THE HUNTERS CAN SEE ORANGE.” KELLY: FOR HUNTERS, THE ORANGE VEST IS A RULE DURING THE CURRENT HUNTING SEASON. BUT THERE IS ONE DAY A WEEK IT’S COMPLETELY SAFE TO WALK THROUGH THE WOODS WITHOUT A VEST AND THAT’S ON SUNDAY. UNDER STATE LAW, THERE IS NO HUNTING ON SUNDAY. ANOTHER WAY TO KEEP SAFE IS TO STICK TO A WELL-KNOWN, ESTABLISHED HIKING TRAIL OR JUST TRY TO WEAR BRIGHT COLORS. KELLY: JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND DURING HUNTING SEASON. LIVE AT OUR HAMPSHIRE COUNTY BUREAU IN NORTHAMPTON, I’M 22NEWS STORM TEAM METEOROLOGIST KELLY REARDON.
